Richard W. Mortell, Jr.
Mr. Mortell maintains a varied practice,
including family law, litigation of injury cases, construction
and commercial disputes.
After admitted to the Illinois Bar
in 1981, Mr. Mortell has developed extensive experience in civil
litigation, alternative dispute resolution, and risk analysis/litigation
management.
He defended injury litigation, including
auto, premises liabilities, construction and structural work act
cases for Aetna Life & Casualty, AAA/Chicago Motor Club, and
Fireman's Fund. As such, he litigated in excess of one hundred
fifty bench and jury trials, arbitrations and mediations. His
accurate risk analysis and practical litigation strategy resulted
in the successful resolution of numerous contested civil actions.
Mr. Mortell as Senior Trial Counsel with Rusin, Patton, Maciorowski
& Friedman also defended catastrophic injury suits for the
transportation industry.
Mr. Mortell acted as Surety Counsel
for Fireman's Fund Surety Company where in handling construction
disputes, he advised Senior Management on strategy and exposure,
while directing workout/negotiations, recovery litigation, and
defense of Bad Faith/Extra Contractual claims. In that capacity,
he retained and managed engineering, architectural,accounting
and legal firms. His expeditious, accurate and decisive approach
led to the resolution of numerous complicated matters.
Mr. Mortell is a 1976 graduate of
Spring Hill College (B.A. History) and received his J.D. from
the John Marshall Law School in Chicago. He was admitted to practice
in the State of Illinois and the United States District Court,
Northern District of Illinois in 1981. He is a member of the North
Suburban Bar Association and Glenview Chamber of Commerce.
